Your support makes extraordinary rescue stories like Cappuccino’s possible.

Update: Winter/Spring '26

Like so many, we’re really feeling the effects of the ongoing cost-of-living and fuel crises. And they are impacting every aspect of sanctuary life… from feed and hay to veterinary care, fencing, and the ongoing repairs still needed after the catastrophic 2022 floods. Four years on, we are still rebuilding from more than $150,000 worth of damage to our 130-acre sanctuary.

At the same time, donations have dropped significantly, creating enormous pressure on our volunteer-based charity.

And after more than eight months of almost constant rain, our paddocks have taken a battering. Now that winter has arrived and grass growth has slowed, we are going through huge quantities of extra hay and bedding to keep our nearly 90 rescue residents warm, dry and well fed. Extreme weather doesn’t just challenge us emotionally, it sharply increases our costs.

These challenges are making it extremely difficult for us to continue offering our vital rescue services and to continue providing the highest standard of care to precious individuals with nowhere else to turn.

Yet despite everything, we remain committed to Mama Cappuccino and her girls, to Sootie the orphaned calf, to Angel the one-eyed pony, and to every other individual in our care who deserves a life of safety and dignity.

As a registered DGR charity, we rely entirely on donations to keep our gates open. Right now, your support is needed more than ever.

🙏 Please make a tax-deductible donation today. Every dollar helps to provide emergency rescue, veterinary care, food, shelter, and a safe future for farmed animals in need.

‼️ NSW FLOOD DISASTERS

On 28 February 2022 we were inundated by a catastrophic ‘once in a 1000 years’ flood.

The 60-metre-wide raging torrents that tore through our little slice of paradise washed away our roads, our shelters, our cars, and destroyed our hay store.

Like everyone in our region, we had no electricity, no phone reception or wifi. Being without power at our off-grid sanctuary means that there is no access to running water. And the toilets were also blocked due to the deluge and mudslides making the septic system unoperational.

But with the tireless help of some amazing volunteers, we started to repair and rebuild.

And then the unthinkable happened….

Exactly four weeks later we were battered, yet again, by a huge amount of very heavy rain and cyclonic winds causing further damage to our infrastructure and to the land that we are the custodians of.

During both floods, the Sanctuary was totally cut-off for days.

The huge volume of water caused damage of more than $150,000 (this did not include our cars or personal belongings):

– our access into the Sanctuary was so badly damaged that we had no vehicle access in or out

– two of our internal roads were washed away cutting off two of our paddocks

– hundreds and hundreds of metres of fencing was destroyed

– paddock shelters were swept away

– our entire hay store was ruined

– feed and water troughs were washed away

– other animal housing destroyed

– we had five large landslides on the property, creek bank collapses, and severe erosion to the remaining roads

– and our massive dam was completely obliterated…it was filled with rocks and debris that came rushing down the hills in the torrent of water!

We were flooded another three times throughout 2022, but unbelievably, all of our precious rescue residents survived. We will forever be grateful for this!

We are still rebuilding.
