About Us

Established in late 2017, our farmed animal rescue sanctuary is a 130-acre coastal paradise just north of Byron Bay, Australia.

At our sanctuary by the sea, we provide a safe haven for all sorts of rescued farmed animals to rehabilitate with love, compassion, and the best possible care so that they can go on to live out their days in peace and kindness, free from harm or exploitation.

In addition to caring for our permanent residents, our ongoing rescue efforts include providing emergency accommodation, foster care, and the rehabilitation and rehoming of neglected, abused, unwanted, and abandoned individuals into carefully vetted adoptive families.

We are a registered Australian charity and we do not receive any government assistance so we rely on donations to keep our gates open. We are volunteer-based and every single dollar of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to animals in need.

We welcome visitors to The Owl & The PussyCat! There are always plenty of furry and feathered friends waiting for you, so be sure to plan a visit soon by emailing visit@owlandpussycat.org.au or reaching out via our social media pages.

OUR VISION

We envision a world where our rescue services are no longer needed…where ALL animals are recognised as sentient beings and afforded respect, dignity, compassion, and freedom. This will be a world where speciesism does not exist and farmed animals are no longer seen as commodities, but as individuals who have an equal right to live life on their own terms.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome or provide lifelong sanctuary to farmed animals who have experienced neglect, abuse, abandonment, or homelessness. We offer a safe haven where every individual receives the best standard of care and the opportunity to experience love, respect, and an enriching life free from harm.

Through education, advocacy, and community engagement, we inspire compassion and promote respect for all living beings. By fostering meaningful connections between people and animals (through ethical events, guided tours, social media, community programmes, and on-site accommodation) we aim to raise awareness about the realities faced by farmed animals and the importance of animal rights.

We are committed to building a kinder world where all animals are valued as individuals, deserving of dignity, compassion, and freedom.
